Firefighters begin backburning development houses in preparation for dry summer

FIRE SALE: In preparation for a hot, dry summer with bushfires expected across the country, NSW Firefighters have commenced backburning activities. This is typically done in natural bushy areas, but this year they have started to backburn development houses to negate the potential spread of fire. A spokesperson stated that 'they were very poorly built homes anyway, and I'm pretty sure they were built on a floodplain; burning them down just saves the homeowners future pain when the wet season starts.' The government hopes that after the backburning, the natural regrowth will result in new green sub-divided suburban areas that they can build even tighter properties on.
